Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Looking for the tiger in the city in May
Late May, outskirts of Lincheng. The gentle breeze caresses, warmth seeps into the heart.
A group of three people stood quietly among the trees.
The boy in black stared intently at the dense cypress forest, realizing that this was the very place where
the mother of this body, Concubine Canghuan Hui, had met her demise ten years ago. Now, a decade later,
the desolation and bloodshed of that day had long since vanished without a trace.
The oriole's song lingers, the branches are lush and dense, and further in the distance, there is a small green
hill with the Fuhu Temple atop it.
"Young Master," Luhuan lightly spun around, happily stepping on the wildflowers, curiously observing
the surroundings. Not far away, a couple of people were occasionally seen climbing the mountain path together.
"Why are you so sure that someone is here?"
Feng Qing looked indifferently at Luhuan, then glanced at Wuxin again, and after a long pause, finally spoke,
"You can go back now."
Wuxin and the other person were slightly taken aback, but they understood Fengqing's intention.
They had originally come to accompany him out of the mountain to find the people of Lin City. Now that
they had arrived here, Feng Qing wanted them to return to Penglai Pavilion.
Lu Huan exclaimed, "Young Master, you're being too inconsiderate. As soon as we arrive in Lin City,
you want to shake us off. Really..."
After a brief pause, Wuxin also spoke up, saying, "Young Master, the Pavilion Master’s intention is for us
to follow you from now on."
Ignoring Luhuan's dissatisfied words, Feng Qing just stared fixedly at Wuxin. Apart from his master
Feng Wufei, these two were the closest people to him, and in his heart, they mattered to him quite a bit,
perhaps even more than his father Feng Aozhu from his past life. However, the path he was about to take was
not an ordinary one.
Feng Qing said calmly, "You are people of Penglai Pavilion."
Implied meaning: Penglai Pavilion has always ignored worldly matters, and they have no need to interfere.
Upon hearing this, the usually inarticulate Wuxin hesitated, unable to think of how to respond. However,
the usually carefree Luhuan gave a slight smile, her words carrying the maturity expected of a woman in
her thirties, and said, "You are the young master of my Penglai Pavilion, the seventeenth generation
heir of Penglai Pavilion."
As the two wings of Penglai, she vowed to follow Feng Qing to the death, not to mention that she watched
this child grow up, so she couldn't rest assured.
Wu Xin nodded in agreement after hearing the words.
Feng Qing no longer hesitated and coldly said, "Since you have made your choice, there is no turning back.
From now on, you two must swear to follow me, Si Cangqing, to the death."
"Yes, Master!"
Lu Huan and Wu Xin knelt on one knee, their left palms pressed against their chests, swearing their loyalty.
With a wave of his long sleeves, Feng Qing turned around and walked deeper into the forest.
Lu Huan and Wu Xin also stood up in a hurry, following closely behind their master.
Outside Fuhu Temple, the worshippers come and go endlessly.
At the ear, there is the incessant sound of wooden fish(percussion instrument); at the nose, there is the
lingering scent of sandalwood.
Feng Qing walked straight towards the Buddhist hall, with Luhuan beside him occasionally exclaiming
in amazement.
Wu Xin was slightly puzzled, and asked the previous question again, "Master, why are you sure that that
person is here?"
Feng Qing, without glancing sideways, said softly, "We agreed to meet again at the old place."
Wuxin nodded, indeed it was so, but with Lin City being so vast, how could Feng Qing be sure it was here?
Before he could continue asking, he heard Feng Qing's voice again: "In what year was this Fuhu Temple built?"
Slightly taken aback, Wuxin remembered that when the Pavilion Master came here to rescue Feng Qing
back then, there was no Fuhu Temple. At that time, the bloody incident that occurred here was known by
very few people. It was rumored that the land of Lincheng was filled with ominous things, and for this reason,
not long after, wealthy merchants and common people from Lincheng collectively donated to build a temple.
So that's how it is…
Wu Xin suddenly understood the truth.
The so-called old place is where the bloodshed occurred; then the reunion must also be here.
Looking at Wuxin's knowing expression, Feng Qing didn't offer much explanation. In fact, this Fuhu Temple
might truly be a place where tigers hide and dragons lie in wait! Back in the palace of the Canghuan Kingdom,
he already knew that Si Cang Juetian had his own hidden forces in Lincheng. It's just a pity that back then,
for the sake of that only prince, he probably revealed a thing or two.
Now, since they have agreed to meet in Lin City, Si Cang Jue Tian probably considered that the Qin family
would never have thought he would rebuild his power in the same place. Moreover, Fuhu Temple was donated
by the people. As a holy place of Buddhism, few would have thought it would be an excellent place to hide dirt
and filth.
"Wow, Master is really smart!" Lu Huan's eyes sparkled beside her. The woman in her thirties was as innocent
as a child, her face full of pride for Feng Qing.
"Amitabha, are you a few benefactors here to offer incense?" Suddenly, a young monk stepped in front of
Feng Qing, clasping his hands together and slightly bowing, saying, "Please follow this humble monk."
Feng Qing stared steadily at the other person and said slowly, "I came to Fuhu Temple to look for a tiger."
The young novice monk's expression froze for a moment, then he smiled and said, "Little benefactor,
you must be mistaken. The so-called 'Subduing the Tiger'(Fu Hu) is just a title; there isn't actually a tiger."
Feng Qing coldly glanced at the other person, lightly pursed his thin lips, and said, "Lead the way."
"Please come this way, benefactor." The young novice pointed with one hand and turned to lead the way.
◇Cang Huan◇Seven Palaces◇
Lin City was originally prosperous, and the only temple, Fuhu Temple, was also quite large, with architecture
that was intricate and magnificent.
Following the young novice monk, Feng Qing and others walked through several winding corridors and
arrived at the side hall.
As soon as you enter the door, you can see the Buddhas sitting on them, either majestic or compassionate.
In the hall, together with the novice monks and pilgrims, there were only a few scattered people.
Feng Qing walked slowly to the middle-aged pilgrim who was kneeling and said in a cold voice: "Kui?"
The middle-aged pilgrim was taken aback, looked up at Feng Qing, smiled slightly, and then got up from
the soft cushion. At the same time, the side hall door was closed by the novice who had guided them earlier.
"Your subordinate Kui pays respects to His Highness the Young Prince, may Your Highness have peace!"
Kui knelt on one knee, and the others followed suit.
"Get up."
After a few people respectfully stood up, Kui, with a smile on his face, secretly observed Feng Qing.
He saw that the other person's expression remained indifferent from beginning to end, with hands clasped
behind his back, and a delicate face full of coldness, exuding an air of youthful maturity. Only those narrow,
clear, and deep eyes seemed to be able to see through everything in the world.
“Say it.” It wasn't that Feng Qing didn't notice the scrutinizing gaze; he merely gave the other person a brief,
indifferent glance.
Kui was slightly startled by Feng Qing's glance, and a little cold sweat broke out from his back. Looking back
without any trace, Kui looked at Wu Xin Lu Huan who followed Feng Qing. After Feng Qing signaled
'no problem', he began to narrate the emperor's instructions in a low voice.
"This is the emperor's order for me to deliver to you, Your Highness." As he spoke, Kui handed the secret
letter in his hand to Feng Qing.
Sitting casually on the cushions, Feng Qing listened to Kui's report silently, knowing in his heart that the
other party had reservations. After all, they still didn't know what the prince was capable of, and they were
probably worried that they were not competent!
After speaking briefly, Kui also stopped looking at the little prince who had been silent.
Inside the side hall, the atmosphere was momentarily tense.
Feng Qing sat there quietly with his eyes down and thinking. Despite being just a ten-year-old child,
he exuded a tremendous sense of pressure. Kui and the others were secretly alarmed. Even Lu Huan,
who was always lively and active, stood still.
After a while, Feng Qing spoke softly, "Where are the prince's personal guards?"
Originally, the few people who had their heads down suddenly raised them, staring in shock at Feng Qing.
The smile on the face of the burly man also froze instantly. This matter of the imperial guards was kept extremely
secret, and very few people knew about it. But why did this little prince, who had never come down from
the mountain, know?
Seeing everyone's reactions, Feng Qing didn't want to explain. Not to mention hearing the emperor's orders
in the palace back then, even if he hadn't, it would not be difficult to deduce that a future prince would have
his own personal guards.
Kui put away his originally carefree smile, his expression turning serious, and said, "Your Highness, it's getting
late today. Tomorrow, we will gather the thirty-four royal guards."
"Mm." Feng Qing nodded, stood up, and prepared to leave. He said to Kui, "Take this prince to a safe place,
then explain everything in detail without any concealment."
"Yes, Your Highness!"
"Yan," Kui gestured to the little monk who had led the way earlier. Yan hurriedly opened the side hall door,
looking at Feng Qing with a hint of admiration in his eyes.
Feng Qing secretly sneered in his heart, but it didn't matter, as the new master of these people, he had to first
win over the people's hearts.
Kui led Feng Qing towards the guest room in the backyard of the temple.
"Master," Kui whispered when he came to an ordinary guest room: "You will live in this room, and my
subordinates will live opposite you. As for these two..."
Kui paused and looked at the two, Lu Huan and Wu Xin.
"I am Wuxin, the master's attendant."
"Little girl Luhuan is also the master's attendant."
After returning the greetings to the two, Kui smiled and said, "Would you two stay in the two guest rooms on
the east side?"
Lühuan and Wuxin both had no objections.
"Your Highness," Kui turned to look at Feng Qing and said respectfully, "It's getting late. Please take a rest.
Your subordinates will come to ask you to have a fast meal later."
"Um."
Feng Qing walked into this simple room and glanced at the secret letter in his hand. Is it the emperor's
handwritten order? Feng Qing's eyes showed a hint of amusement.
