Chapter 149
Chapter 149: Mist and Smoke Descend, Regret in the Mortal World (Part One)
He was very quiet. Every day he did nothing and just stayed by himself, speaking little and rarely smiling,
completely different from the person who had spent two months with him before. Si Cang Qing lowered his gaze,
looking at the person sleeping with their head on his lap, a faint confusion in his eyes. The only thing that hadn’t
changed about this person was their deep attachment to his embrace.
Several books were casually scattered all over the floor. In Si Cang Qing's heart, the previous comfort was long
gone, and his gaze was glued to Mo Qing Jue, his thoughts racing. Ten days ago, he had married this person, but
the next day, the other suddenly seemed like a completely different person, with entirely different habits, making
him inevitably suspicious.
At first, when he was hungry, Si Cang Qing just wanted to explore the events before his amnesia, and his head
would ache unbearably. But in the following days, the situation gradually improved. Occasionally, his mind
would conjure up the faces of certain people, repeatedly just a few faces. Although he could no longer remember
their names, the feeling was incredibly familiar and intimate, stirring a deep, urgent emotion within him.
However, whenever it reached a critical moment, those images would suddenly disappear.
After several repetitions, the images of several people in his mind became increasingly clear… Si Cang Qing
raised his hand to stroke Mo Qing Jue's hair, his eyes gradually turning cold. In the fragments of memory he had
recalled, this person had never even existed.
Putting the various inconsistencies together, Si Cang Qing could conclude that his amnesia was connected to this
person! However, he still didn’t understand what this person’s motive was for doing this. Aside from the initial
moment when this 'Mo' appeared and indeed tried to kill him, he hadn't done anything to harm him before or
afterward…
He had once thought that not remembering the past didn't matter, but now, Si Cang Qing was annoyed by the
recurring images of those people. He couldn't help but decide to remember everything as quickly as possible.
A sharp pain shot through his scalp, bringing Si Cang Qing back to his senses. He found the other man awake,
staring silently at him, clutching a tuft of hair in his hand and pulling it tightly.
Si Cang Qing placed his hand on Mo Qing Jue's and said softly, "Awake?"
Mo Qing Jue didn't speak, only lowering his eyes, continuing to play with the tuft of hair.
Si Cang Qing said nothing more, pulling the other's cool body into his arms and gently stroking his back. Since
that day, Mo Qing Jue had barely exchanged two words with him throughout the day, yet he disliked being
ignored. For example, when he was lost in thought, the other would occasionally tug at his hair.
...Although Si Cang Qing harbored many suspicions and wariness towards Mo Qing Jue, he never went against
his heart. Even if this person wasn't the same as before, and his body might be his enemy, he was willing to follow
his heart and protect him.
Seemingly dissatisfied with Si Cang Qing's renewed silence, Mo Qing Jue suddenly wrapped his arms around his
neck, raised his jaw, and bit down hard on his lips.
Si Cang Qing was already used to this man's actions, simply letting him bite haphazardly on his lips and chin,
the sticky, damp sensation moving slightly along his neck.
After teasing him like this for a while, Mo Qing Jue finally left, satisfied, and nestled obediently into
Si Cang Qing's arms, squinting at the setting sun in the western sky, when he suddenly spoke: "I'm hungry."
Glancing at him, Si Cang Qing pulled Mo Qing Jue to his feet, holding his hand in one hand and taking his book
in the other, and walked towards the small house deep in the bamboo forest.
"Let's go home!"
Yes, tranquility.
Opening his eyes, Si Cang Qing's body tensed, his breathing erratic.
Beside him, the person who hadn't slept well the past few nights was now sleeping soundly. Perhaps sensing
the oppressive atmosphere, he shifted uncomfortably, his arm around Si Cang Qing's waist tightening.
His hand clenched into a fist under the covers. Si Cang Qing carefully removed the other's limbs from his body,
got up, dressed, and quietly left.
Suddenly awakened, Mo Qing Jue reached to his side; it was ice-cold. Startled, he looked out the window at the
sky—a hazy gray. A calm nausea rose, replaced by a nameless panic. He got out of bed, without even putting on
his shoes, and set off to find the man.
After circling the bamboo grove, Mo Qing Jue finally found Si Cang Qing. The man stood far away on the
riverbank, hands behind his back, gazing up at the sky.
Relieved, Mo Qing Jue hurriedly walked over there.
Si Cang Qing didn't turn back, only gazing at the eagle circling in the sky. In the three months since his
disappearance, those people must have been frantic with worry. So, he got up early and first sent word of his
whereabouts to the merchant guilds, and then…
He was about to leave.
His hair was gently tugged. Si Cang Qing paused, then slowly turned his head, his lips tightly pressed together,
his eyes coldly fixed on the newcomer.
A chill rose instantly from the depths of his heart. Mo Qing Jue's fingers trembled, then slowly loosened, falling
limply to his sides. He stared blankly at Si Cang Qing, his heart no longer calm as before.
He knew Si Cang Qing had lost his memory and had developed feelings for another version of himself. He didn't
delve into the reasons, simply taking this person for granted. He knew all along that Si Cang Qing would remember
everything sooner or later, and then they would once again stand on opposite sides, locked in a life-or-death
struggle.
Now this person is so indifferent… has he remembered everything?
His gaze fell on Mo Qing Jue's bare feet. Si Cang Qing frowned slightly, his icy aura softening slightly. He said
with displeasure, "Why did you run out without shoes?"
As he spoke, he naturally picked Mo Qing Jue up and carried him back the way they came.
Mo Qing Jue froze slightly, not answering, but intently looking into Si Cang Qing's eyes, searching for the
slightest hint of suspicion. After a moment, he relaxed against Si Cang Qing's chest, squinted, and looked at the
hazy sky, feeling a little sleepy again.
After settling the person onto the bed, Si Cang Qing was about to leave, adding, "If you're sleepy, keep sleeping."
But his arm was grabbed. He turned around and heard the other person say in a commanding tone, "Don't go!"
Lowering his eyelids, staring at the person's pale hand, Si Cang Qing silently nodded. Without taking off his
clothes, he lay down on the bed, gently embracing Mo Qing Jue, and said softly, "Sleep."
Watching the person in his arms fall asleep again, Si Cang Qing slowly released her. He got up and left without
the slightest hesitation.
...This time, he would spare his life.
Last week, he learned that his resolve to kill that person had wavered slightly, and he finally decided to let
the person go, but he would never have any connection with that person again!
Using his light-footed skill, Si Cang Qing's feet touched the bamboo branches and tree trunks as he sped away.
Standing at the crossroads, he hesitated, unsure of what to do. The area was quite remote, and Si Cang Qing
wasn't familiar with it. Just as he was about to choose any path, he suddenly sensed a strangely familiar presence
approaching. He turned around and saw Mo Qing Jue standing about ten feet away, smiling faintly.
"Ah Qing, where are you going?"
Wen… understanding the other's identity immediately he remained silent.
Mo Qing Jue gazed at him tenderly and said, "We've already been married. Are you really so heartless as to leave
me without even a word?"
His eyes flickered, and Si Cang Qing coldly replied, "Not killing you is already showing mercy!" With that, he
turned and left.
The man swiftly stepped in front of him, but Si Cang Qing swung his arm, deflecting the attack. He landed lightly,
his voice icy: "Get out of the way!"
"Heh," Mo Qing Jue merely smiled, gazing intently at Si Cang Qing. His eyes, once filled with mockery and
arrogance, now held a deep sorrow. "You're so utterly unmoved… So, all these past two months, our feelings were
just a lie?"
"There was never any, so what's the point of 'true' or 'false'?" The ruthless words were spoken without hesitation.
Si Cang Qing slightly averted his eyes, no longer looking at the man. "I've already spared your life; don't be
ungrateful!"
Mo Qing Jue trembled, his face growing even paler. His lips trembled involuntarily as he murmured, "There was
never any…" His expression suddenly changed. He smiled eerily. "Since that's the case, I won't show any more
mercy. I'll kill you now!"
Before the words were finished, he attacked Si Cang Qing with lightning speed and precision.
The relentless offensive forced him to be on high alert last week, but the opponent persisted. Just as he was about
to counterattack, he suddenly saw a white shadow flash by, dodging to the left.
Si Cang Qing turned around and was immediately surprised… How did Ran Shuangran suddenly appear here?
Before he could think further, he saw Mo Qing Jue being sent flying by a palm strike. Si Cang Qing swiftly flew
over, catching the person struck with one arm, and swung his other arm to block Ran Shuangran's deadly attack.
Si Cang Qing, holding Mo Qing Jue, twirled in mid-air, dodging Ran Shuangran's attack, before landing steadily
on the ground. He shouted in a deep voice, "Stop!"
As Si Cang Qing attacked, Qi Shuangran withdrew his attack, standing proudly, his expression cold as he stared
at the two. "Si Cang Qing, are you going to help him against me again this time?"
Startled, recalling their previous unpleasant encounter, Si Cang Qing glanced at the person in his arms. Although
the person's complexion wasn't good, they weren't seriously injured, so he released them and ignored them. He
looked at Ran Shuangran indifferently, "Why are you here?"
"I'm asking you, are you truly going to protect this person today?" Ran Shuangran ignored his question, his eyes
icy. "You've fallen for him, haven't you?"
Si Cang Qing simply looked at Ran Shuangran silently. "Ah Qing..."
This call turned Ran Shuangran's gaze to Mo Qing Jue, his eyes filled with undisguised hatred and killing intent:
"I am not one to be toyed with. This time, I will settle the score with Tianwaitian!" He glared at Si Cang Qing:
"If you help him again today, I will show no mercy!"
With that, Ran Shuangran moved with ghostly speed, appearing behind Si Cang Qing and engaging Mo Qing Jue
in battle once more.
With his back to the two locked in fierce combat, Si Cang Qing merely stared indifferently at the distant bamboo
forest, making no further move... He could have turned against that person because of his own infatuation, but he
didn't want to try to stop Ran Shuangran again.
Everyone must pay the price for their actions, especially since that person was already his sworn enemy!
As for feelings...
Si Cang Qing suddenly remembered what Cheng Tian Yang had told him last time.
